AB 1924, authored by Assemblymembers Jesse Gabriel (D-Encino) and Sharon Quirk-Silva (D-Fullerton) and co-sponsored by Inner City Law Center, requires the California Interagency Council on Homelessness to develop and publicly issue a statewide homelessness prevention strategy by July 1, 2027.
California has made historic investments in getting people housed, but has done far less to stop people from becoming homeless in the first place. Statewide, nearly three people fall into homelessness for every one person who gets housed. AB 1924 would push the state to treat prevention as a strategic priority, keeping people off the streets and saving taxpayer dollars.
